Woke up this morning with my throat feeling worser than ever... been ill for bout a week... S/T plus some cough n phlegm... but never bothered to see a doctor. Bad move, cos just when i felt so i had recovered, the virus hit me back with its full fury. Never count ur chickens b4 they're hatched..
left house ard 1130 for sheraton hotel for my cuz wedding. may she have a blissful marriage n live happily ever after... lol.. was feeling fine at first but felt weaker as the meals followed its course... by the time the 2nd last dish came i was feeling terrible... i usually have quite a hearty appetite... n i LOVE weddings for their food( yes, i sin in gluttony).. but today... bleah.. didnt even bother to take 2nd servings... thankfully my little cousin ( a self-proclaimed spongebob-squarepants) n his little bro came to poke fun me alittle... lol... which perked me up abit...
Straight after lunch i made a trip down to Ngee Ann city for the supernova salsa comp. felt a fever coming up n brought panadol... which seriously helped ALOT! our team was still at amara hotel at the time we were supposed to meet!!! well nth surprising actually. Our team has an absolute talent for tt.. so i just sat ard watching the likes of the soul society, konoha village, DOA babes, jedis and troopers, the ouran highsch host club(love their uniform!) and others pose for pics n strut their stuff... Yep.. Cosplay comp before the salsa comp... Back to Supernova, sof who wasnt in the comp was the next to arrive... lol... Anyways we got 3rd prize!!! nt bad for our first compettiton huh?! considering tt there were only 3 teams n 2 of which were already very established in salsa - first prize went to a couple of a couple of instructors while the 2nd went to SMU - im happy with the results(im an optimist).. the standard of the other 2 teams were waaay above ours... we didnt have the energy we had at DXO but what the heck... at least stage fright doesnt bother us much now.. Lets give it our all for our LAST(hopefully) rankankan performance next sunday!!
Headed straight home by mrt n had to stand all the way... which was terrible... but i survived!! lol... took a shower n curled myself up in bed the moment i reached home... by this time i was shivering but yet feeling hot at the same time... n there i lay, unable to sleep nor do ath else till my family returned home from my uncle's place bout 2 hours later...
I love my family alot... especially my parents who have taken care of a frail young child with unconditional love... I have nt fallen sick like this since as long as i can remember... and its been long since they've fussed over me like this... lol.. if there's one thing good this illness had bought, it served as a nice reminder how much my family loves me. went to see a doctor ard 11pm at a 24hrs clinic... which is actually the main reason why i wanted to write this post... lol... If u dont really care how my day went ( most ple dont), do read this part onwards at the very least!! I now sit at my laptop, armed with socks n a jacket to write what i tink of our medical field. I went to the 24hrs clinic today, expecting a higher than usual charge since tis so late at night.. the doc wrote watever i told her in her little not so legible handwritting on a little piece of card while listening with indifference to what i had to tell her.i was a little peeved at tt actually... but i've seen doctors who're like tt so i didnt tink much of it... after all i just wanted her to diagnose me. she told me its prob flu plus throat infection(URTI i tink..lol..) then came the medication... 7 different types!!! n the bill? a whooping $98 bucks!!! HELL i can get myself the proper medication at another clinic for a third the price!!! its the first time i recieved a MEAL of medication for URTI n flu... hmmm.. one for the nose, one for the throat, one for the phelgm, one for the cough, one for the headache, etc etc... If every doctor treated like her, the world's medicine would run out real fast...
n her diagnosis was lousy too... usually the doc will ask qns n the patient answers... the only qn she asked was," wats wrong with you?" Being medically trained in the past, I've seen how the different doctors who care n how doctors who dont care can differ in the same consult for signs n symptoms... My example below is how she wrote Vs some of those i've seen... the stuff she writes is even less detailed than wat i write when i triage patients in the medical centre even!!
Eg. sore throat-- lousy doc -- S/T ------------- good doc --- S/T + throat redness( a std no. assigned by the docs in the clinic) + length
cough -- Ldoc -- cough with greenish phelgm( i had to tell her myself tt got phelgm.. she never asked..) --------- Gdoc -- cough, greenish phlegm, length
anways, yeah i just gotta let off some steam... lol...the worst part was how she took advantage of patients n give them soooo much meds which arent really necessary. I actually do feel much better now, and she has earned my gratitude for consulting me (n earned much of my cash as well...).... but she's lost my respect. (To the doc: Yes i know you've seen many similar cases b4... I just hope you dont do the same to all your patients. Its really quite bad for the reputation of the clinic n doctors in general...)
That said ( just abit more whining... just realised i've written a very long post...), a very close physiotherapist fren of mine once went to Aust. I shall spare the details( getting very tired... ) but the main gist is that while S'pore medical field has the technology, it lacks the compassion. The system is structured is such a way tt there are so many red tapes n protocols tt sometimes the patient does not get the best treatment he/she deserves. Even the docs n other medical workers find much restriction in what they can do( which is prob why, aside from the money, many doctors choose to venture out on their own.) in singapore, nurses n other medical workers take command from the docs n are sometimes wary to make 'suggestions'. in Aust, nurses n medical workers share an equal standing with the docs and are able to make decisions which are better for the patient. many heads are better than one tts for sure. n sometimes, nurses n physios see stuff tt doctors normally wont notice. to err is human, n docs do make mistakes in their diagnosis.
There are good docs in s'pore, who actually care for their patients instead of seeing this as an opportunity to make money. Dr tan from my previous base is a gd example, n i've learnt alot from him. My family doc( nt open 24hrs sigh..) is so good its quite rare to see the clinic empty. we've got to change our mindset alittle.. if only so to improve our medical care, not just thru treatments n meds but with a smile too...
oh well.. time to sleep... i've got a long week packed ahead but im nt sure if i can do all of them... i've even cancelled my appts for sunday... n missed wushu for a 2nd time... sigh...
