Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
To put others before self - that is one of the greater tasks Christians are supposed to undertake. Many willingly take credit for their own works, and eagerly announce it to the world for their own glory. This is not a Christian's way. Yet, there is a difference in acknowledging your contributions but yet staying humble, and denying your capabilities that have helped you in the work. The former is what we aim to do. When we work we do so earnestly, without a motive of gaining power nor approval. Nothing should be done through the work of office politics nor the abuse of position but by putting others before yourself - eg your loved ones or those less fortunate than ourselves.
There was once my family met an elderly hale lady in the lift, and my mum commented on her good health. She thanked God for it in return, giving credit to God boldy in front of strangers who she'd only met for the first time. This made my mum speechless, for she didn't know how to reply (so was I), but for myself today I admire her frankness and humility, and hope to follow in her stead.
