VS has finally come to tt forked road ... shld it become a co-ed sch n boost its calibre ? or should it continue to strive to be one of the best boy's sch in singapore ?
Victoria thy sons are we
i sincerely hope the committee makes the latter choice ... 129 yrs of guarded tradition will be vanish the moment it becomes co-ed .. the atmosphere and comandarie tt can only be created in a boys sch will be lost ... gone forever ...
Victoria is something more, the school that watched us grow
while the brain-drain theory holds true, im sure tt VS will be able to keep up wif the standards ... although its tougher ... im sure parents will hesitate to send their daughters to VS anyway ... its reptuation as a all rounded sch does nt come easily ... even if we manage to pull our acedemic standards up can we say the same for the area of sports n culture ?
While others came before and went and carried to the world, Victoria's fame and our intent ...
the victorian spirit is still very much alive in us ; the memories of the days spent in sch are still kept n cherished .. the fun we had, the hardship we encountered ... been thru thick n thin wif my brothers ! the sch manages to create a strong feeling of 'sch spirit' or wat we call victorian spirit .. a strong base of loyalty n comandarie exists among those who study there ... will the spirit still be there when it becomes co-ed ? maybe ... but it will be a different feeling altogether ... old boys have been returning to contribute to the sch ... old boys from all walks of life ... all still attached to VS ... take my scouts for instance ... every year a whole platoon of old boys will religiously return to sch for its annual campfire amd other impt events ... ple who have studied at VS decades ago still return no matter wat ... does this happen in other schs ? only a minority ... says sth bout the victorian spirit doesnt it ?
