1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
The focus this week was on stirring up the minds of christians, as opposed to allowing a mind (and thus faith) to stagnant or even backslide. Sad to say, my faith has been stagnant for some time now... And the sermon did 'stir up' my mind somewhat... I've been yearning to do more, but whenever it comes to a commitment of sorts, I tend to back away.
But God has given me some things to ponder about, such as when I was chatting to another christian friend about the creation of the world earlier this week. He believes in non-literal days, whereas I believe the God created the earth in 7 literal earth days.
Genesis 1
1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
If you argue from the point of scientific evidence with regards to earth being created in literal or non-literal days, both are equally strong. I've learnt that the amazing thing about science is that its interpretation is truly in the eye of the beholder. If you look up the internet, you'll actually find strong contenders with reputable names on both sides. Sadly, man has interpreted even the bible in many different ways. I believe the best and only way we should interpret it is to remain objective, and avoid coming up with assumptions or conclusions when the bible is silent on these matters. That said, the earth was created in 7 literal days, as it is stated explicitly that the 'evening and morning' of that day became the first day. Singular form, single day. The bible then continues this trend of 'evening and morning' to conclude the later days.
And there you have it! The earth created by God in 7 literal earth days!
